Since its inception in 2023, the International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE) has rapidly evolved into a leading global platform for advocates, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners committed to advancing gender equality and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5.
ICGE has consistently addressed critical themes shaping the global gender equality agenda, including gender-inclusive governance, economic empowerment of women, education for women and girls, combating gender-based violence, women’s leadership and mentorship, and health and well-being. These topics ensure the conference remains a catalyst for dialogue, policy innovation, and actionable change.
Over the years, ICGE has brought together hundreds of participants from across continents, including government representatives, civil society leaders, academics, and youth advocates, all united by the shared vision of creating a world where gender equality is a lived reality.
The conference’s reach and diversity have solidified its role as a hub for international collaboration and knowledge exchange, welcoming participants from Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond.
ICGE’s editions have been hosted in Accra, Ghana, starting with the maiden event at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana in 2023, and followed by the 2024 gathering at the Accra International Conference Centre under the theme “From Vision to Reality: Catalyzing Sustainable Gender Equality in Developing Economies.”
Each edition features a dynamic mix of plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and virtual presentations, ensuring both in-person and remote participants can meaningfully engage and contribute to the global conversation.
Each edition of ICGE has featured compelling keynote addresses from globally recognized leaders, policymakers, and advocates. These thought-provoking sessions have offered deep insights into the complexities of gender equality and inspired concrete action.
From practical strategies for gender-inclusive governance to capacity-building for women’s economic empowerment, ICGE workshops have equipped participants with actionable skills, tools, and knowledge to drive change in their communities.
A hallmark of the conference has been its storytelling segments, both on-site and online, where women and girls share their lived experiences. These authentic narratives bring data to life, foster empathy, and inspire collaborative solutions.
Select editions have showcased films, photo exhibitions, and creative performances that explore gender issues through the lens of art and media, followed by engaging discussions with creators and experts.
ICGE offers participants the chance to explore the host city’s culture, history, and heritage through guided tours and networking activities, creating an enriching and memorable conference experience.
High-quality research presented at ICGE is often selected for publication in conference proceedings and partner journals, expanding the reach and impact of the work shared during the event.
At its core, ICGE is more than a conference. It’s a growing international network of advocates, experts, and changemakers committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 5 and ensuring gender equality is not just a vision, but a reality.
